Plane of Fear

11

Four armour slots, and a published strategy written for a different game

A one-way portal in the Feerrott spectre caves, monsters at 48 to 51, and a hard level gate at 46. Come for four of the seven planar armour slots — Chest, Wrist, Hands and Feet, and every ordinary mob here drops one of them. The raid targets are instance-only and almost every number published about them is classic EverQuest. Arriving alone is what kills people: the portal is guarded, and there is no ordinary way out.

Key to the plan

Where you are

Four bands of floor. You arrive in the south-west and the Temple climbs away from it.

A portal in the spectre caves
The Feerrott, and the only door in. One way, level 46 and up, and guarded on the far side. There is also a race line at the portal T5
The south-west corner at −1139, 1282
Where you arrive, and where succor and evacuate put you. Your reset button
A stepped temple
The fourth and highest band on the plan. Cazic Thule at the top of it, and the Temple exit portal here

Camps, pull points and escape lines are unrecorded. There are no placeholders here, but a spawn point can hold more than one type — a spinechiller spider where you expected a scareling.

Five hazards

Cautions

  • Do not zone in alone The portal is guarded, the guard sees invisibility, and it is on you immediately. T5
  • There is no ordinary way out Gate, a port, or dying. Succor returns you to −1139, 1282. The Temple exit portal is the worse route.
  • Invisibility is unreliable Much of the population sees through it, and a turmoil toad sees through all of it. The drops table marks each type. T5
  • The level 51s summon So do Irak Altil and the Wraith. Distance is not an escape from those. T5
  • Cazic Thule calls the whole zone The hotfix of 24 June 2026 reads: “Cazic-Thule now properly calls for his minions when he is engaged in an instance of the Plane of Fear.” Zone-wide social aggro, stated by the developers — the only boss mechanic here they have confirmed outright.

Position and behaviour

Named roster

The 16 June patch note names five of these as raid targets and takes them out of the open world and personal instances. Who is here is settled; the numbers are not.

The eqlwiki Plane of Fear page was created 9 March 2026 by P99Wiki>RibbonRMX, the Cazic Thule page by imported>CrazyPro on 29 March 2026 — both Project 1999 imports predating EverQuest Legends, and no later edit describes a measurement. The published strategy says, word for word:

It’s recommended to have several dozen melee and a dozen+ healers.

Legends caps a raid at 8. That is a correct description of a different game, and following it here is not possible.

Coordinates are the published pair read as (Y, X), checked against the drawn floor — that result prints under the plan above. Legends raid bosses run three classes from D3 and every one of these is listed with a single class, which alone dates the table. five of the seven have been killed and parsed at the higher tiers. What the difficulty tiers change, measured →

Every published respawn timer here describes something that no longer happens — 72 hours for the golems, 7 days for the dracoliche, all of it the open-world spawn the 16 June patch removed. Access is governed instead by the raid instance and the weekly loot lockout, which resets Tuesdays at 8AM PST; a kill made while locked still returns one guaranteed drop from the boss’s unique table (28 July patch note). Instances cost no experience — the 23 June patch note raised instanced Fear, Hate and Sky to match the open world — and drops match the tier you are in, with a diminishing chance to roll higher (29 July hotfix).

Slot by slot

What drops

Every ordinary mob here drops planar armour for one slot. Find your slot, then hunt anything on those rows.

The class-group split is gone, and one mob moved. A guild loot guide of 18 June 2026 lists these mobs merged rather than split into class groups, moves a turmoil toad to Wrist from Hands, and says every listed mob can also drop the matching Lustrous Russet or Midnight Clad piece for its slot. Pre-launch, and one source (credits). The Group column is the imported reading, printed beside it. Every planar set → works from the item records, unaffected either way.

Armour columns T3 — eqlwiki, maintained by editor Mazirian through 16 July 2026, and they list Beastlord and Berserker sets, which are classes Project 1999 does not have. Abilities, types and sees-invis T5 — imported. Group 1 is CLR DRU SHM BST RNG PAL BER MNK; Group 2 is ENC MAG NEC WIZ BRD SHD ROG WAR.

The two shared sets are confirmed from the item records themselves. Every Lustrous Russet piece reads WAR CLR PAL RNG SHD BRD ROG SHM, every Midnight Clad piece DRU MNK ROG NEC WIZ MAG ENC BST. Rogue is the only class on both, and between them they cover all sixteen. Haunted chests in the Plane of Hate drop Lustrous Russet.

Phoboplasm is the exception, and this half is measured rather than read. It drops Midnight Clad for Arms and Legs as well as for the four Fear slots — and Arms and Legs are slots the tables give to the Plane of Hate. So a Fear mob can hand you two Hate pieces. No Lustrous Russet has been recorded from it, which makes the split it ignores the slot, not the set.
A gap, named rather than smoothed over. a decrepit warder appears in the armour table as a Group 1 Wrist drop and nowhere else on the source page — no level, no abilities, no sees-invis. A whole mob type is missing its record.

Named gaps

Still open

Each closes with one log, one screenshot or one /con.

Open questionWhat settles it
Boss hit points at D0–D4Not one figure in the roster is Legends-era, and the measured kills do not close it: damage to kill bounds hit points from above and no more.
Fright’s statsUnrecorded by anyone, classic sources included.
a decrepit warderA single /con and a look at what it drops.
Whether the low end of the mob band is 48 or 49The source hedges it. A handful of /con readings.
Trash respawnTwo passes through the same camp with timestamps.
Plat, motes and AA per hourA measured parse. Nothing is published for this zone at any difficulty, and the one report of strong AA gain describes the Plane of Hate.

If you are choosing between the planes purely on experience, the Plane of Hate carries a higher ZEM, 86 against 82.5.

Measured in play TIER M

Plane of Fear, run at D1, Awakened. Everything below was observed in the live game rather than read from a source: what these mobs cast, what they hit for, and what they dropped. Upgradeable drops here ran +1 to +3.

What takes control away

Stuns here arrive as spells, not as melee. Stunning melee attacks were shrugged off and the spells landed anyway, so an immunity to stunning melee attacks does nothing about them.

Ordinary mobs are not itemised here.

What this is and is not. Observations, not rates. A drop seen once is not a drop rate, and nothing here is a probability. Damage is what the mob dealt against the armour it met, so treat the maximum as the shape of the hit rather than a constant. What a log can and cannot tell you →
