Floor plan

Where the walkable floor ends, computed from the zone’s own geometry in the game files, with the 10 named mobs whose positions are on record plotted on it. This zone has 3 levels and they overlap when flattened, so the control above isolates one at a time.

Height
Unbound FlameThe TenderizerLost CrusaderThe WidowmistressThe guard captainNajenaAkksstaffMooshDrelznaThe Blood Artist250 unitsN

A line marks the edge of the floor — a wall or a drop. Doors, locks and one-way drops are not marked, and a gap is as likely to be a ledge as a doorway. 10 of these 10 positions land on the drawn floor, which is worth stating because the coordinates and the geometry come from different sources and both have to be right for that to happen. This drawing is derived from the game’s mesh and is not a copy of any published map.

01Source confidence — this one is different

The wiki page for this zone is actively maintained, and that is unique among the dungeons surveyed so far. It was edited ten times on 30 July 2026, between 09:30 and 11:01, by a single editor working through it. The Map section was separately expanded on 6 July and again on 24 July. Compare the rest of the project: The Hole was last touched 15 July, Befallen 7 June, The Warrens 16 May. The structured data behind this plate is hours old, not months.
The usual caveat still applies to the prose, and here it is unusually easy to see. The page began life on 30 July 2025 as a Project 1999 import. The narrative sections still carry that text word for word — the sentence about which keys are No Rent appears verbatim on Allakhazam, and the hedge about Journeyman's Boots ends in a literal question mark. So the split holds: infobox, map list, NPC table and item table are live Legends data; the Dangers, Keys and Traveling prose are classic EverQuest. Where the two disagree below, the structured record wins and the disagreement is shown rather than hidden.
Revamped 23 June 2026. The patch note promised smoother NPC level progression for 15–30, new named, new drops, loot improvements, and "a striking lack of placeholders for named mobs." Najena was not in the 28 July launch-day dungeon pass, which means the 19-minute respawn is a current figure rather than a pre-patch ceiling — one of only two plates in this series where that is true.
The ZEM came down, from 130 to 119 (159%). Najena is the third zone in this series the 23 June rebalance reduced, after The Warrens and Befallen. 159% is still strong — level with Crushbone, Befallen and Blackburrow, and far above Lower Guk at 115% — but anyone quoting a pre-June figure is overestimating it.

02The plate

Every marker is a surveyed /loc from the wiki's NPC table. Grid squares are 200 game units. You enter at the gold circle on the left and work rightward and downward — lower X is deeper, lower Y is further south into the prison and Rathyl's wing. Faint hollow dots are ordinary population spawn points, plotted to show where the zone is actually dense.

The guard captain stands with Officer Grush and A Visiting Priestess, in the southern wing rather than the entry level. The wiki's text places all three together, and Grush and the Priestess are recorded at −385, 230 and −493, 170 — well south, past BoneCracker. Community maps of the zone put the captain in that same wing. Look for him and the Shiny Metal Key there. His own NPC record lists 52, 187, worth a glance in passing.
Two other plotted pairs land on top of each other, and both are correct. BoneCracker and Trazdon sit 13.5 pixels apart — the map lists them as rooms 8 and 7, adjacent. Moosh and the injured halfling sit 15.5 pixels apart, both inside the prison. Neither is a plotting error.
One record does contradict itself and is not plotted where the wiki puts it. Rathyl reincarnate is listed at −154, −119, but the same page states he spawns on Rathyl's corpse — and Rathyl is at −670, −119. The X matches exactly and the Y differs by 516, which looks like a transcription slip. Expect him where Rathyl died, not at the listed coordinate. He is plotted at the listed value with this warning attached.

Skeletons two and three to a room, aggressive elementals, ogre guards. All attack on sight.

Below about level 17 this is a group zone — the wiki's own words are that walking into a room can bring four or more creatures at once. Everything triggers everything else.

Prison & basement

The southern descent. Necromancers, magicians, the prison and Rathyl's wing at the far end.

Both pit traps land here. The prisoners are quest-relevant and one of them will get you killed on faction — see section 08.

Rooms 2, 4 & the caves · 17–35

Caves & Najena's wing

Behind Najena's room: two goblin camps — three spawns south, five north — level 18-ish warriors or magicians, plus four individual spiders and a possible minotaur.

Goblin magicians summon elementals and cast a damage shield on anything nearby. They drop mage focus quest items.

04The key chain

Four keys gate the descent, plus one off-chain keyring for the prison. The zone is vertical and the keys are the only way through it.

05Named roster

The 23 June revamp promised "a striking lack of placeholders." The percentages below are what the wiki still records; where a named has a known placeholder it is named, because several clearly still do.

06Loot table

The wiki lists 80 items dropping here. Weapon lines read damage / delay. As of 29 July every roll is gated to your difficulty tier or better, with a diminishing chance at higher tiers.

Journeyman's Boots — the headline item, and the sources disagree. The eqlwiki item record names its source plainly: Najena, Drelzna. The zone map entry for room 5 lists her dropping them with full stats — FEET, AC 1, NO DROP, clickable JourneymanBoots effect. Against that, one line of narrative prose says she "used to spawn the Journeyman Boots (but not as of ? era)" — a sentence that ends in a literal question mark and appears word for word on Allakhazam, marking it as imported classic text rather than a Legends observation. Two further points favour the drop: the map section was expanded on 6 and 24 July by an active editor, and the 23 June Najena patch note ends with the developers joking "I could swear my Journeyman's Boots are 1% faster."

Working conclusion: expect them off Drelzna, and treat the prose hedge as stale. A separate Journeyman's Boots Quest also exists as an alternative route. If you camp her and they never drop, that is the single most valuable correction you could send back.

The Kitchen Toolbelt is the reason to come here at 20. A +10% haste waist item, usable by every class and every race, off a level 22 ogre near the front of the zone — and the 7 July patch removed the low-level item haste cap, so it now works as printed. Nothing else in this bracket is close, and you do not need a single key to reach him.
Najena is a caster's zone by design. Three of the four best items she drops are NEC WIZ MAG ENC only, the Damask set below is the same, and the magicians and goblin magicians carry mage focus quest items. A melee-heavy group will still level well but will watch most of the loot go to someone else — and will be stonewalled outright by mist elementals.

Two epics route through this zone. The wiki's related-quest list names the Necromancer Epic and the Magician Epic, alongside The Mystic Cloak, The Visiting Priestess, and the Torch of Alna, Shovel of Ponz, Stein of Ulissa and Broom of Trilon chains. The four Torn Pages of Mastery — Earth, Water, Fire and Wind — are the magician thread, and three of the four come out of the prison and Rathyl's wing.
Only one quest actually starts here: The Visiting Priestess, minimum level 30, rewarding the Blued Two-Handed Hammer. It runs through Mistmoore Castle, Neriak Commons, Neriak Third Gate and Solusek's Eye — so it is a long chain begun off a 10% spawn.

07The elemental rotation

This section has no equivalent in any other plate in this series, because no other zone documents its spawn system this precisely. It is the wiki's own farming guide, and it is Legends-era content rather than imported prose.

There are sixteen elemental spawn locations in Najena, not counting Najena's own placeholder. Three types rotate through them — Earth, Mist and Fire — but not every spot spawns every type. The pattern the wiki records is three variants: some spots produce only Earth; others alternate Earth or Mist; two alternate Earth or Fire. On the spots that vary, the split is roughly even.

Most common

Earth elemental

Appears at every spot. Also Najena's placeholder, which is why her camp is an elemental camp.

Drops Iron Oxide, Russet Oxide, Drop of Mercury and the Hardened Brick of Clay.

Middling

Mist elemental

Only on spots that alternate with Earth. Invulnerable to regular weapons and self-invisible seconds after spawn.

Drops Swirling Mist. Bring See Invisible and magic damage or skip them entirely.

Rarest

Fire elemental

Only two spots can produce it, alternating with Earth. Unbound Flame at the entry is a fire elemental named.

Drops Lava Rock and Charcoal — the scarcest components in the zone.

What a long session actually yields. The wiki records a four-hour-plus farming run producing well over a stack of Drops of Mercury, about fifteen Swirling Mists, and six Lava Rocks. Fine Plate dye components came out similarly — a stack and more of Iron and Russet Oxides against five or six Charcoals. The estimate given is roughly twenty to twenty-five percent drop rate for each individual dye and temper component. The ratio between the three elemental types is the thing to plan around: mercury accumulates on its own, lava rock does not.
If Lava Rocks are the goal, leave the dungeon. The wiki's own advice is that Lavastorm Mountains outperforms Najena for them. One named spot: the middle of a gas plume at the edge of a small lava pool, /loc −985, +115, directly north of the Lavastorm–Nektulos zone line entrance. That point spawns a fire elemental every six minutes, and there are likely others in the zone.

08Dangers

Mist elementals cannot be hurt by ordinary weapons, and they hide. They cast invisibility on themselves several seconds after spawning, so See Invisible is needed even to target them and magic damage to kill them. They are kill-on-sight to everyone. A melee-only group will be stonewalled at a spawn point it cannot clear — route around it or bring a caster. This is the single most likely thing to stop a group cold in this zone.
Do not kill Moosh in the prison. Attacking him brings an injured halfling out of the cell to help him, and killing that halfling tanks every Rivervale faction. Moosh also attacks players far above his level, so simply loitering in the prison is a bad idea. If you are trapped in a cell he is the way out — take the keyring and leave.
Two pit traps on the upper level drop you into the prison. They are marked X on the wiki map, easy to fall into, and much harder to climb out of. The Guard's Keyring is what gets you out — which is the one legitimate reason to want Moosh dead. Some players use the traps deliberately as a shortcut to Rathyl, shrinking to fit through the bars.
The front rooms swarm. Two to three skeletons lie on the floor of any given room, and each is inside the aggro trigger radius of the others. Below about level 17 the wiki's advice is blunt: walking into a room can bring four or more creatures at once. Elementals and ogre guards are mixed in and all attack on sight.
Officer Grush roots. He casts Root and Walking Sleep, so expect to be held in place next to an ogre camp. The "skeletons" at 21–22 are the most dangerous mobs in the front half despite the plain name — do not read a green con on a large skeleton and assume the room is safe.
Rathyl reincarnates instantly. A level 30 skeleton rises on his corpse the moment he dies, procing a 35-damage frost spell. If your group relaxes to loot, it opens on you at full health. Note also that Trazdon flees under 10% and, since 28 July, you cannot chain-stun a runner.
The counterweight: this is a fair zone once you know it. Nothing here death-touches, nothing here harm-touches for hundreds, and no named requires a raid. The dangers are all positional — traps, swarms, an unhittable mob type and one faction landmine — and every one of them is avoidable with the map in hand.

09Getting there

Port levels remain unresolved across the project. The eqlwiki Rituals page and the Travel Guide page disagree on druid and wizard port levels, and the Travel Guide has already been proven wrong about translocator routes. This plate does not quote a specific level for that reason. Gnoll Guard's spell pages are the likeliest source to settle it, since its spell data was rebuilt from the game client as of the 27 July patch with per-class level requirements verified field by field.
