Floor plan

Where the walkable floor ends, computed from the zone’s own geometry in the game files, with the 1 named mob whose position is on record plotted on it. This zone has 3 levels and they overlap when flattened, so the control above isolates one at a time.

Lines are floor edges — a wall or a drop. 1 of 1 recorded positions land on drawn floor. What this plan does not mark →

01Why you come here

02The weapon rule, and why it is our headline

This is the one claim on the page that came from our own community rather than from a wiki, and it is the reason to read the zone afresh.

Classic EverQuest penalised slashing and blunt weapons underwater, which made piercing the default in water zones and shaped every inherited opinion about what to bring here. We have never sourced that rule to a citable record, and we say so rather than repeating it as established.

In Legends it appears not to apply. Annalise, fighting in Kedge Keep on 9 August 2026, reports landing normal hits with a sword. C

The eqlwiki Kedge Keep page carries {{Classic Era}}, discusses breathing at length, and says nothing whatever about weapon types underwater — it neither confirms nor denies. So the only Legends-era evidence points one way, and it is one player’s report rather than a parsed log.

What would settle it: one combat log line showing a slashing or blunt weapon landing normal damage while submerged. If a penalty exists it should show as a visible drop in average damage against the same mob type fought on land. Until then this stays an open question on the register, credited to her.

03What the sources are

Better than the planes, and still mostly imported.

The eqlwiki Kedge Keep page was created on 21 August 2024 by P99Wiki>Cconley717 — a Project 1999 import from nearly two years before EverQuest Legends existed. The Phinigel Autropos page carries {{Classic Era}} and a single undifferentiated hit-point figure.

One edit stands out. On 8 August 2026, after launch, editor Mandlz added a Raid Instance section describing Phinigel as a Legends raid encounter entered by hailing a voidling, with solo and multiplayer instances sharing a lockout. That is genuinely current material and it is the most recent Legends-era editing we have found on any zone we have surveyed this week. It carries no edit comment and states no method, so it is T3 rather than tier 2 — but it is not classic text.

The section also leaves two of its own fields as TBD: level of monsters and types of monsters in the raid instance. We are not going to fill those in for them.

04Getting in, and staying alive in it

  1. Dagnor’s Cauldron, southern tip of the lake swim down a broken entrance in the depths
  2. Water breathing first item, spell or bard song there is no version of this zone without it
  3. Succor puts you at 14, 100 a caged room a long way from the exit — know this before you press it

Succor here is not a way out. On most of the zones we survey, evacuate drops you at or near the zone line. The published succor point for Kedge is a caged room distant from the exit, so evacuating solves the fight you are losing and starts a different problem. T5

05The shape of the zone, and what our plan can and cannot show

The floor plan above is computed from the game’s own mesh. On this zone, more than any other we have drawn, it needs a caveat.

BandHeightFloor foundSeparate pieces
Deepz −238 to −140116 triangles6
Mainz −112 to 841,193 triangles16
Highz 336 to 36494 triangles3

Six hundred units of vertical range across three separated bands. The source page says the zone “extends vertically as well as horizontally”, and our own extraction agrees with it independently — which is worth saying, because the two come from completely different places.

The caveat, and it is a real one. Our floor plans draw walkable floor — the surfaces a standing character could stand on. Kedge Keep is a zone you swim through. Large parts of where you can actually go are open water with no floor beneath them, so this plan under-draws the navigable space more than any other on the site. Read it as the skeleton of the building, not as the map of where you may move.

06The named roster

Fourteen named. Only Phinigel has a published position; the rest we list without one rather than inventing coordinates.

Roster and drops T5 — imported. The common/rare split is the source’s own wording and is not a measured rate. No level is published for any named but Phinigel, and we would rather print thirteen question marks than thirteen guesses.

07Phinigel Autropos, and the four epics

One boss gates components for four class epics. That makes this the most contested single kill of any zone we have surveyed.

Why the Fiery Avenger finding matters here more than anywhere

On 10 August 2026 Annalise completed every step of the paladin epic, final turn-in included, as a non-paladin. The reward is still flagged Class: PAL, so holding it and earning it have come apart. C

Kedge Keep is where that question gets expensive. If the same is true of the four epics gated behind Phinigel, then who may run them is a far wider group than the class names suggest — and in a game where a character carries three classes at once, that is not an exotic edge case. We have one epic on one character and we are not going to generalise from it. Testing any one of these four would settle it, and this is the obvious place to test.

Access. Phinigel stopped spawning in the open world and in personal instances on 11 June 2026. He is reached by hailing a voidling, and the raid section notes that solo and multiplayer instances share a lockout — so running the solo version does not leave the group version free that week. T3

08What we do not know

Open questionWhat settles it
Whether slashing and blunt really are unpenalised One log line of a sword landing normal damage while submerged, against the same mob type fought on land.
Whether a non-wizard can finish the wizard epic One attempt. The paladin epic is already reported done this way.
Phinigel’s hit points at D0–D4 A raid log. “18k” is one classic figure for a five-tier game.
Levels for thirteen of the fourteen named A /con each.
Whether the raid instance changes the population The source’s own raid section leaves both fields as TBD.
Trash respawnTwo passes through one camp with timestamps.
Whether the ZEM survived launch The 139 figure and the patch note agree, and neither is post-launch measured. An experience parse over a known number of kills would confirm it.
