Floor plan

Where the walkable floor ends, computed from the zone’s own geometry in the game files, with the 19 named mobs whose positions are on record plotted on it. This zone is a single level, so there is nothing to separate.

Huntmaster FurgrlThe Mighty Bear PawCave Bat LordKing GragnarHigh Shaman DrogikGrodl RipclawThe MuglwumpKrode the DivinerLorekeeper RoggikWarlord DrrigPrince BragnarJailer MkrarrgTrainer DaxgrrFoodmaster RargnarSmithy RrarrginPackmaster DledshAn Erudite PrisonerAderius RhenarKoajin500 unitsN

A line marks the edge of the floor — a wall or a drop. Doors, locks and one-way drops are not marked, and a gap is as likely to be a ledge as a doorway. 19 of these 19 positions land on the drawn floor, which is worth stating because the coordinates and the geometry come from different sources and both have to be right for that to happen. This drawing is derived from the game’s mesh and is not a copy of any published map.

01Revamp status, and a source warning

This zone's wiki page is thinner than it looks. It was created on 12 February 2024 as an import from the Project 1999 wiki and has been edited exactly three times since — most recently 16 May 2026, ten weeks before launch. The only substantive Legends edit was a note that the zone is available from the start. As with The Hole, the page's infobox and its NPC and item tables carry live Legends data because they are generated from the wiki's structured records rather than typed by hand; the ZEM shows the June rebalance and the item entries carry EQL stats and focus effects. The narrative sections are classic EverQuest prose and are used below only for layout and mechanics unlikely to have changed.
Treated on launch day, 28 July 2026 — placeholders removed and maximum respawn times lowered, alongside The Hole, Nagafen's Lair, Lower Guk, Lair of the Splitpaw and Castle Mistmoore. Because the wiki page predates that patch by ten weeks, every spawn percentage and respawn timer in section 04 is a pre-patch figure and should now be better. Several named here were on percentage placeholders, so this is the zone in the launch pass with the most to gain.

The two numbers that matter

The zone is flagged as outdoors. The wiki calls this odd, and it is, but it means Spirit of Wolf, Harmony and other outdoor-only spells work inside the dungeon. Movement speed and pacification in a cave network is a real structural advantage no other dungeon in this series offers.
Faction runs both ways here. Killing kobolds raises standing with both the Heretics and the Erudites — the two factions that are otherwise opposed on Odus. For a character making Odus a long-term home that is a rare double, and it is why evil Erudites can stay near their home city for the first twenty levels.

02The plate

Plotted from surveyed /loc data in the wiki's NPC table. Grid squares are 200 game units. The gold circle is the zone line and succor point; accent dots are true named positions, with numbered labels on leader lines. The zone runs east to west, entrance on the right.

  20. 19KoajinL15
The plot validates itself. Six pairs of named land within twenty pixels of each other, and every one of those pairs is documented as sharing a room — Smithy Rrarrgin with Foodmaster Rargnar in the Kitchen, King Gragnar with High Shaman Drogik in the Throne Room, Grodl Ripclaw beside the Muglwump, Aderius Rhenar with Koajin among the prisoners, Warlord Drrig next door to Lorekeeper Roggik, and Packmaster Dledsh beside the Prison Area. Coordinates and room list agree independently, which is the best evidence available that both are sound.
Three coordinates in the wiki's NPC table are out of range. A greater shaman is listed at 33% each at (−642, −2732), (−4205, 3319) and (−4313, 3336). Every other position in the zone falls inside roughly ±1200 on both axes, so these three are either mis-entered or belong to a different zone. They are not plotted. Treat the greater shaman as unlocated and expect to find it among the deeper shaman population.

03Structure — fourteen mapped rooms

The kobolds get steadily stronger the deeper you go, so the room list doubles as a levelling order. Entrance and prison sit east; the throne room and the Muglwump sit centre-west.

Entrance & prison

The east end. Heavy kobold density, which is the best low-level hunting in the zone and also its worst train risk. Lower-level players pull to the entrance from two directions.

The prison holds captured Erudites, a Kejekan and Koajin, a Kerran craftsman. Two of the zone's three quests start here.

Rooms 1, 3–6, 11 · 18–25

City & throne room

Where the gear is. King Gragnar and High Shaman Drogik share the throne room; Prince Bragnar, Warlord Drrig, Krode and Roggik ring it.

The batlings are the real hazard — their group is entirely wizards and shamans.

Rooms 12–14 · 14–24

Bat caves & the west end

Giant cave bats, the Cave Bat Lord, Huntmaster Furgrl and The Mighty Bear Paw — a Walrus Man, oddly, this far from ice.

Beyond here the kobolds have broken through into the Stonebrunt Mountains, the zone's only other exit.

The bats do not play by kobold rules. Giant cave bats are not social with kobolds or with each other, and they flee at low health. The Cave Bat Lord is stranger still: he is classed as a kobold, not a bat, and none of the nearby bats will come to his aid. That makes him a clean single pull at level 22 in a zone otherwise full of assists.

04Named roster

Spawn percentages and respawn timers are the wiki's figures as of 16 May 2026 and predate the 28 July placeholder removal. Treat every rate here as a floor.

05Loot table

The wiki lists 75 items dropping here. Weapon lines read damage / delay. The zone has a signature look: the armour is bamboo splint, soft wicker and cold iron, and almost every weapon is a bokken, naginata, tachi, wakizashi, katana, yari or jutte.

Cold Iron is WAR CLR PAL SHD BRD, all races except DWF TRL OGR HFL GNM and IKS. Two oddities: the Collar occupies the Head slot rather than the neck, so it competes with the Helm rather than complementing it, and the Helm has a narrower race list than the rest of the set. Eight of the ten pieces come off a single 100% named on a 48-minute timer, which makes King Gragnar the most efficient armour camp in the bracket — and the Cold Iron quest takes the set's components further.

The Crown of the Forlorn is the standout. AC 5 with STR +5, HP +20 and SV Magic +5 on a head slot, open to every class except the pure casters and druids, off a 100% named on a 48-minute timer. HP +20 at this level is well out of band. The Forlorn Naginata at 15 / 46 is likewise the best two-hander in the zone by a clear margin over the Blood Crusted sword's 10 / 47.

Every Muglwump drop is no-drop and every one is narrowly gated. Two are Erudite-only, one is enchanter-only, one magician-only, one necromancer and wizard. The wiki states all seven roll at equal chance, so a given group has roughly a one-in-seven shot at the piece it actually wants — and the Etched Chitin Shield's Rune I effect needs a Cat's Eye Agate brought along to fire at all. Budget several 35-minute cycles.

Three quests start in this zone. Catman Alliance from Aderius Rhenar at level 1, which pays coin and faction and links to Erudin; Erudite Prisoners from a prisoner at level 10; and Miranda's Dice at level 18, which sends you to Prince Bragnar for the bone dice and pays a Ball of Burlap Yarn carrying four charges of Snare. The Quellious Symbol chain and the Cold Iron quest both draw components from here as well.

06Dangers

The entrance area is the whole problem. The kobold density that makes it good hunting also makes it the worst train risk in the zone, and wandering kobolds add to fights on a regular basis. Crowd control or a real group is required, not optional.
The batlings are wizards and shamans, with no melee at all. Ten fixed 100% spawn points cluster them tightly in the middle of the zone. A pull that brings two is a pull against two casters at once, and Krode the Diviner sits at the bottom of their pit.
Diseased kobolds proc a disease that lasts a very long time. The wiki singles out the duration rather than the damage. Bring Cure Disease or plan to fight the rest of the room debuffed.
Two harm touches in the throne room bracket. King Gragnar hits for around 240 at level 24 and Prince Bragnar for 181 at level 18. Both are shadow knights, and Gragnar also lifetaps. At these levels a 240-point opener can remove a tank's cushion before the first heal lands.
A pack leader may see through invisibility. The wiki records this as an open question rather than a fact, with five spawn points at 33% each. Invisibility is the usual way past the entrance crush, so treat it as unreliable until confirmed.
Warlord Drrig's room has a one-way pit. The drop to the Batling Caves cannot be climbed back up. It is the intended route to Krode, but it puts you among the casters with no retreat.

07Getting there
