Floor plan

Where the walkable floor ends, computed from the zone’s own geometry in the game files, with the 22 named mobs whose positions are on record plotted on it. This zone has 3 levels and they overlap when flattened, so the control above isolates one at a time.

Height
The Live KeepThe Dead Towera minotaur patriarchthe froglok kinga froglok tacticiana huge water elementalA Froglok Noblea ghoul sagea froglok herbalistA Minotaur ElderA Froglok Yun Priestan Evil Eyea froglok crusadera ghoul savanta ghoul cavaliera reanimated handa ghoul ritualista ghoul scribethe ghoul lorda ghoul assassina ghoul supplierthe ghoul arch magia ghoul executionera ghoul sentinel250 unitsN

A line marks the edge of the floor — a wall or a drop. Doors, locks and one-way drops are not marked, and a gap is as likely to be a ledge as a doorway. 22 of these 22 positions land on the drawn floor, which is worth stating because the coordinates and the geometry come from different sources and both have to be right for that to happen. This drawing is derived from the game’s mesh and is not a copy of any published map.

01Status & a correction

The zone respawn is 9 minutes 28 seconds, not 28 minutes. A wiki editor corrected the infobox on 10 July 2026 with the summary "updated zone spawn time", changing 28:00 to 9:28. The page's own Monsters section still reads "Zone Respawn Time = 28 minutes" and is stale, as are several NPC notes. One entry — the ghoul supplier — was updated to "9m 27s" in the same pass, which corroborates the new figure. Three times faster than every older guide says, and it changes camp economics completely.10 Jul
Treated on launch day, 28 July 2026 — placeholders removed and maximum respawn times lowered, alongside The Hole, Nagafen's Lair, Lair of the Splitpaw, The Warrens and Castle Mistmoore. The page predates that patch by two and a half weeks, so the spawn percentages below are pre-patch floors and 9:28 is itself a ceiling.
ZEM 86 (115%), raised from 80. This is the lowest modifier in the series, tied with Nagafen's Lair — roughly 27% below the revamped low dungeons at 159% and a third below The Hole and The Warrens at 171%. Come here for loot, not for the rate. The wiki's own framing agrees: the items are "probably the most sought after in the game for this level range."
Source warning. The page was created 2 August 2025 as a Project 1999 import and has five revisions since. Its infobox and its NPC and item tables are live Legends data; its narrative sections — Dangers, Benefits, the 30-point Quester of Norrath walkthrough — are classic EverQuest prose, used below for layout and mechanics only. Where the two disagree, as on the respawn timer, the structured record wins.

02The plate

Grid squares are 400 game units. Filled markers are Live side, hollow rings are Dead side. The two interleave in coordinate space — that is not a plotting artefact, it is why the zone is famously confusing.

Four marker pairs collide and every one is confirmed by the source. The herbalist and the jin shaman sit 0.5 pixels apart — the map says the Herbalist Room holds him "along with one other Dar level mob." The cavalier and savant share the Dead Tower. The assassin and supplier are described, twice, as being in the same room. And the two Guk guards flank the Ghoul Lord's throne.
The Ghoul Lord and the Ghoul Arch Magi have no coordinates of their own. Both are plotted by proxy — the Lord by his two Guk guards at 1558, −749 and 1542, −765, the Arch Magi by his placeholder, a jin ghoul wizard at 1182, −834. Camp the guards and the placeholder. Slaythe the Slayer and Raster of Guk are likewise unlocated and not plotted.

03Reading a froglok

A froglok's clan name gives you its level. Learn the ladder and you can con the whole zone by name. Every melee clan has a caster counterpart of matching difficulty.

There are no warriors in Lower Guk — only knights, shamans and wizards. Live side has knights and shamans; dead side has knights and wizards. Kill order is fixed: wizards first (they nuke hard and have few hit points), then shamans, then knights, then pets. Dead side mobs can also ghoulroot.

04The two sides

Live · 24–49

Frogloks

Knights and shamans. Hunting here seriously damages froglok faction, which many players want intact to travel Upper Guk safely.

More wanderers than dead side, and the maze. If you lose faction by accident, killing undead frogloks raises it back.

Dead · 24–49

Froglok ghouls

Knights and wizards. Busier, because there is no faction cost. Undead — a gift for classes with undead specialisations.

Most of it is very far from any exit. Bring an evacuator.

Both

The maze is the defence

The wiki's assessment: the zone's main defence is how confusing it is, plus the lack of ready access to the deep areas.

Hug the right wall through the live maze to the jail room, then cut straight through to the evil eye.

Invisibility is unreliable here, and the reason is subtle. The live/dead split is not absolute. Dead side holds many living creatures that see straight through Invisibility versus Undead — the vampire bats most of all, and a Deadly Black Widow waits in the tunnel by the Bedroom specifically to catch people running the wrong one. Live side occasionally holds undead from trains. Several mobs see through ordinary invisibility too: the Evil Eye, the Huge Water Elemental, one of the basalt gargoyles, and every mob flagged undead.
Four ways in, one way out that nobody plans to use. Three Upper Guk entrances land close together on dead side — two need a short swim, the dry one is nearest Guk's front entrance. The fourth, deepest into Upper Guk, is the live side entrance. Behind the King's Room there is a one-way zone exit to Upper Guk beside the Innothule entrance: faster than evacuating, but it puts you past the toughest mob in the zone.

The Enameled Black Chestplate at AC 25 is the highest in the project so far, and it comes off a ghoul savant — a 100% spawn on the Dead Tower's middle level. Rare on his table, but no placeholder gamble to reach him.

07Dangers

Invisibility is two spells and neither is safe. Dead side holds living creatures that see through Invisibility versus Undead — vampire bats above all, and a Deadly Black Widow that waits in the Bedroom tunnel specifically for people running the wrong one. Live side gets undead from trains. Independently see-invis: the Evil Eye, the Huge Water Elemental, one basalt gargoyle, and every mob flagged undead.
Live side costs you froglok faction. That faction is what makes Upper Guk and much of live side safe to walk. If you lose it by accident, killing undead frogloks raises it back.
Dead side is a long way from any exit. The wiki is blunt: bring an evacuator. Most of it sits far past the entrances.
Shamans and wizards are the whole problem. Shamans carry pets and the nastier DoTs — Scourge, Venom of the Snake. Wizards nuke hard with few hit points and are dead-side only. Kill wizards first, then shamans, then knights, then pets. A Kor ghoul wizard in the Arch Magi area casts a 600-point nuke.
The live maze is deadlier than Cazic Thule's. The wiki says so directly. Hug the right wall to the Jail Room, then cut straight through to the Evil Eye, which is the hub for everything else. The Elder Room also has a pit trap that can kill you — though falling in gets you a clean solo fight with the elder.
Two genuinely safe spots. The tunnel beneath the GIB Room is called Safe Hall. And just above "C" on the bottom floor there is a sharp L turn no wanderer visits — people regroup and even bind there.

08Getting there

Measured in play TIER M

3 sessions, 05 Aug 2026 to 06 Aug 2026, 3 sittings. Measured from Shara’s log. Measured across 2 days, so the character’s level may have changed within the span — treat the landing rates as an average over that range rather than a figure for one level. Zone entered as Lower Guk (D1, Awakened). 18 kills across 10 kinds of mob; our own swings landed 85.6% of the time (104 attempts). Drops seen: +1 ×185, +2 ×35, +3 ×2. Faction moved: Frogloks of Guk, Undead Frogloks of Guk.

What takes control away

0 stunning melee attacks were shrugged off, and 66 stuns landed anyway — every one of them from a spell. That gap is the point: an immunity to stunning melee attacks does nothing about a spell, and the character being measured carried exactly that immunity. Screaming Terror landed 4 times for 78 seconds of being unable to act. It produced no fear behaviour whatsoever — no fleeing, nothing the log calls fear — so despite the name it reads as a stun, and fear protection does not appear to touch it.

Counted from what the log recorded, not from what a spell is assumed to do. Resist rates depend on the character’s own resistances and alternate abilities, so treat these as what happened to one build rather than as a property of the mob. The useful part is the kill order: whatever casts the spell at the top of this table takes your turn away most often.

What this is and is not. These are counts from one session, not rates. A drop listed here was seen at least once and nothing more — no drop rate can be read from it. Damage and landing figures describe this trio, at this level, against these mobs, on this date; a different level or trio changes all of them. Mobs that never attacked us and never cast anything are absent, because a log records what happened rather than what was there. Spell names are as the game printed them.
