Lower Guk

Two warring sides, and a clan ladder that cons the whole zone by name

Levels run 24 to 49, and a froglok’s clan name gives you its band before you target it. Come for the loot — the Flowing Black Silk Sash, the Mithril Two-Handed Sword and the Crown of the Froglok Kings are the best in the bracket — and not for the levelling, since the experience modifier is joint fifth-highest of our 13 surveys, behind Kedge Keep. Invisibility is two spells and neither is safe. Everything down to the measured section is read rather than measured.

Floor plan

Where the walkable floor ends, computed from the zone’s own geometry in the game files, with the 22 named mobs whose positions are on record plotted on it. This zone has 3 levels and they overlap when flattened, so the control above isolates one at a time.

Key to the plan

Where you are

Dead side runs north, live side runs south, and they overlap in the middle. The band where they interleave is real rather than a drawing error, and it is why people get lost here. A Y climbing past 800 is taking you into dead side and away from every exit.

Three jail cells in a maze room
The Jail Room, the live maze’s one reliable landmark
A big room full of people buffing
The Bedroom, the dead-side staging point
A cauldron, mushrooms, a pit and a ladder
The Elder Room. Raster of Guk hides in the upper alcove, and the pit trap here can kill you — though falling in gets you a clean solo fight with the Minotaur Elder
Cages with froglok slaves in them
The Executioner Room. He stands on the central platform
A waterfall, and nothing attacking you
The Waterfall Room. The Scepter of Sorrows is on the floor
A three-storey keep
The Live Keep. Roof and bridge Vis and Wan, floor 2 Zol, Yun and the Priest, floor 3 the Crusader
An eyeball in a room with four ways out
The Evil Eye, and the live-side hub: keep, jail, noble and elder all lead from it
The two crossings
The Elder Room and the bridge are the only places to cross between the sides. Live side is knights and shamans, with more wanderers and the maze. Dead side is knights and wizards, busier because there is no faction cost, and undead throughout — a gift to classes with undead specialisations
Two safe spots
The tunnel beneath the GIB Room, called Safe Hall. And a sharp L turn just above “C” on the bottom floor that no wanderer visits, where people regroup and even bind

Four ways in, and one way out nobody plans to use. Three Upper Guk entrances land close together on dead side, two of them needing a short swim; the fourth and deepest is the live side entrance. Behind the King’s Room is a one-way exit to Upper Guk beside the Innothule entrance — faster than evacuating, but it puts you past the toughest mob in the zone.

Reading a froglok

The clan name gives the level band, and every melee clan has a caster counterpart of matching difficulty. Learn the ladder and you can con the zone by name.

T5 — Classic EverQuest text. Legends mobs run three classes at once. Inherited, and wrong here: the classic guides say Lower Guk has no warriors, only knights, shamans and wizards. Legends mobs are multiclass and the roster below lists WAR on froglok after froglok. Read the kill order as a priority among the kits a mob is running, not as a statement about what it is.

Five hazards

Cautions

  • Invisibility is two spells and neither is safe Dead side holds living creatures that see through Invisibility versus Undead — the vampire bats above all, and a Deadly Black Widow waits in the Bedroom tunnel specifically to catch people running the wrong one. Live side gets undead from trains. Seeing through ordinary invisibility: the Evil Eye, the Huge Water Elemental, one basalt gargoyle, and every mob flagged undead.
  • Kill order Wizards first, then shamans, then knights, then pets. Wizards nuke hard with few hit points and are dead-side only; a Kor ghoul wizard in the Arch Magi area casts a 600-point nuke. Shamans carry pets and the nastier DoTs, Scourge and Venom of the Snake. Dead side mobs can also ghoulroot.
  • Live side costs you froglok faction That faction is what makes Upper Guk and much of live side safe to walk. Killing undead frogloks raises it back if you lose it by accident.
  • Dead side is a long way from any exit Most of it sits far past the entrances, and the wiki is blunt about it: bring an evacuator.
  • The live maze The wiki calls it deadlier than Cazic Thule’s, and rates the zone’s confusion, plus the lack of ready access to the deep areas, as its main defence. Hug the right wall to the Jail Room, then cut straight through to the Evil Eye.

What drops

Weapon lines read damage / delay. As of 29 July every roll is gated to your difficulty tier or better. The wiki’s own claim for this table: “probably the most sought after items in the game for this level range.”

Rare, common and uncommon are the wiki’s words, not measured rates. Nothing in this table is a count. What was measured in this zone is reported separately, in Measured in play below.

Measured in play TIER M

Lower Guk, run at D1, Awakened. Everything below was observed in the live game rather than read from a source: what these mobs cast, what they hit for, and what they dropped. Upgradeable drops here ran +1 to +2. Killing here moves faction with Frogloks of Guk, Undead Frogloks of Guk.

What takes control away

Stuns here arrive as spells, not as melee. Stunning melee attacks were shrugged off and the spells landed anyway, so an immunity to stunning melee attacks does nothing about them. Screaming Terror locks you out of acting. It produces no fear behaviour whatsoever — no fleeing, nothing that behaves like fear — so despite the name it reads as a stun, and fear protection does not appear to touch it.

What this is and is not. Observations, not rates. A drop seen once is not a drop rate, and nothing here is a probability. Damage is what the mob dealt against the armour it met, so treat the maximum as the shape of the hit rather than a constant. What a log can and cannot tell you →
